Safe Routes to School

WSTEM is excited to partner with Safe Routes to School. This initiative encourages walking or biking to school and addresses student safety and traffic congestion. We encourage everyone to follow our drop-off and pick-up guidelines and look forward to a safe school year.

  • Project W.I.L.D.

In partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks Department, WSTEM is creating a 21st Century outdoor learning environment that allows students and the community to investigate in this living laboratory-outdoor classroom.

  • Technology

Students use iPads, iPods and Chromebooks to explore curricular topics and demonstrate and share their learning. Students view technology as a device that will better help them understand the content in the classroom.

  • Field Trips

WSTEM classroom extensions allow firsthand exposure to learning. These "experience labs" are inquiry-based lessons that grant children the opportunities to investigate and interact with the world around them.

  • Science & Engineering

Engineering is taught through the Engineering is Elementary curriculum. Students also work in their engineering teams, which consist of one member from each multiage classroom to work on engineering projects.

Welcome to Wauwatosa STEM

Encouraging students to inquire, investigate and discover the world around them!

Our Philosophy of Education

Wauwatosa Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) is the first charter school to open in the Wauwatosa School District. With a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, we provide an innovative and dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to inquire, investigate and discover the world around them. Students in grades K-5 learn in multi-age classrooms and receive differentiated instruction.
This approach allows our students the opportunity to become independent, self-monitoring learners, develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and understand the importance of striving for quality and excellence.
WSTEM affords our students with optimum educational opportunities by providing an environment rich in parental involvement, community participation and strategic educational partnerships.
Our staff, parents and board members pledge to produce students who are academically prepared and socially engaged to conquer the challenges of the twenty-first century.

WSTEM Believes In...

  • cultivating each child’s potential
  • developing confident, independent, self-motivated thinkers
  • creating an innovative learning environment that is engaging and challenging
  • providing the opportunities and benefits of a multi-age setting
  • fostering a kinship among children, teachers, parents and the larger community

"During the course of the year, we will strive for excellence by focusing on inquiry based learning and project based learning while utilizing technology to gather and present information. S.T.E.M. is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. At WSTEM, we focus on these subjects to help our youth gain the skills required to succeed in today’s challenging and changing world. These skills include the ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and drive advancements in science and technology."

WSTEM Mission & Vision

The mission of Wauwatosa STEM is to provide an innovative and dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to navigate their own course. Individual needs are met in a cooperative, supportive learning community through an engaging and challenging curriculum rooted in the sciences, technology, engineering and math.
Our vision is to provide an environment where students are inspired to inquire, investigate and discover the world around them.
