Partnerships are our cornerstone to success for students and the community. To date, we have created an innovative environment that best supports science, technology, engineering and mathematics teaching and learning. We have cultivated partnerships with key contributors within our community that have allowed us to expand this environment beyond the walls of our classrooms.

Wauwatosa STEM is intent on creating a total learning environment that is uniquely designed to meet the needs of teachers, students, the community and leverages the schools’ many assets.

Wauwatosa STEM in partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks System has begun to create a 21st century learning outdoor classroom that builds on the natural curiosity of young students and takes learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. Our combined vision is to provide an environment where students are inspired to inquire, investigate and discover the world around them.

In addition to developing the physical space for the environmental learning lab, the school has launched a project-oriented curriculum in partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks Department in the designated county parkland, adjacent to the river. The partnership’s initial project will include five core curricula components: plant restoration, reconstruction of the river retaining wall, park and work site mapping, career investigation and overall synthesis and reflection.

This specific curricula focus on science and engineering allowing the school to bring into practice what they are learning in the classroom and expand the classroom to participate in real life work, working to improve the park and river way, gaining additional exposure to STEM careers.

Through the efforts and planning of the Milwaukee County Parks Department, Patera Architecture,  Marquette University School of Engineering, IBM, EFW and the students and families of WSTEM, we hope to create an unbelievable learning opportunity for Wilson/WSTEM, Wauwatosa School District, and other environmental education enthusiasts.  This site will provide opportunities for learning that fit both the curriculum of the Wauwatosa School District and WSTEM.
