Expand the Classroom and Connect to the Environment

WSTEM is a charter school and in Wisconsin, charter schools focus on the areas of critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. They serve as a “testing ground” for new curriculum and teaching methods. These methods are modified and developed into successful models that are then rolled out to conventional (non-charter) public schools.

As part of the charter, and in exchange for more autonomy to develop innovative curricula, pedagogy, and operational strategies, Wisconsin public charter schools have greater accountability than traditional (non-charter) public schools for student performance, financial matters, and effective school operations. Public charter school students also take the state tests required of other public school students.

WSTEM has had local control of the school through its governance council since its inception. The Governance Council, parents, teachers and community members have developed our guiding beliefs that shape the decisions and affect daily operations and the overall success of our school.

Our Fundraising Priorities

Remain the Top School in the State

WSTEM has ranked in the top two schools in Wisconsin under the Department of Instruction’s public school accountability report card, significantly exceeding expectations.  We have a model school with dedicated parents, teachers and students who are hungry to learn and will be leading our future in science, technology, engineering and math.  More importantly, they will be helping keep our country competitive.

This accomplishment is grounded in tremendously dedicated teachers and staff. Charter schools are free to innovate in ways that improve student achievement.  Charter school teachers have voice in the curriculum they teach and frequently change materials mid-year if necessary to meet students’ needs.  Charter schools build upon the core academic subjects by creating a culture or adopting a theme.  For example, we focus on STEM education, performing arts, project-based learning, college preparation, career readiness, language immersion, etc.  It takes continuous learning on behalf of our teachers and staff to remain current in STEM curricula.

Contribute to Success

We need your help in meeting our priorities. WSTEM is a public charter school.  As such, we have the flexibility to adjust the curriculum to meet our students needs, but more importantly, prepare them for careers in areas of need.  This flexibility comes at a cost.  Please consider making a donation or sponsoring our school to help ensure our continued success.

Expand the Classroom and Connect to the World of Knowledge

This means one technology device for every student.

1:1 technology will provide the appropriate infrastructure for teachers to meet the needs of each individual learner.  A flexible, individualized learning environment is best realized and supported by individual access to technology and the educational programming supported on the internet.
